Mandibles

Honeybee mandibles are powerful jaws that protect the colony and perform multiple tasks. They are crucial in protecting and preserving the colony's overall health. Worker bees have specially adapted mandibles which they use to manipulate wax, feed larvae, and groom their hive mates. Worker bees utilise their mandibles to bite invaders that threaten their colony. Worker bees have mandibles that show structural differences compared to the mandibles of queens and drones. During her nuptial flights, the queen's mandibles serve to attack rivals, while drones possess less developed mandibles because they do not engage in hive work duties.
